During college, our Business Communications class often had guest Celebrity Speakers, especially in the first half of the semester. These lectures were central in preparing me for my Marketing major in my senior year later. They would give us speaking tips, which we tried to adopt and own fervently. In the last half of the semester, we were introduced to and lectured by various Motivational Speakers, who in my opinion were a rung higher than the Keynote Speakers we were also lectured by in our basic Communication Skills 101 class.

The amount I gleaned from my Business Communication class, in my freshman year is more than I initially realized. I find now that my whole formal business and communications outlook was honed in that one class. I suggest that everyone who wants to pursue a Marketing, Sales, Entrepreneurship or Hospitality major should take this class.

It all depends on the instructor, his/her natural charisma, and sense in designing the course. It is courses like that one that come to my mind every time people mention to me that college is supposed to be a ‘polishing’ environment and that oodles of ‘grooming’ takes place while one is enrolled at one.
